4 Wire SPI mode is extremely versatile and still remains a very suitable solution for different situations.
And according to the datasheet, the LCD driver is very simply identified as being ST7789V2.
The minimum allowable temperature for operation is as low as -20°C (-4°F) while the maximum is 70°C (158°F).
The P024C117SD can display colors in a 2.4-inch display area with 240×320 resolution, and a luminance of 260 nits, ensuring high visibility under indoor lighting conditions. Besides just the panel, this product combines driver circuitry and backlight power supply on a 43.00×75.35mm PCB, so you will see the screen on the front and the complete driver circuit on the back. This means that engineers can just connect the power and the SPI signals, and they will get the screen turned on without the need to refer to the datasheet for design of peripheral circuitry.
The 4-wire SPI interface uses only 18 pins in total, and the definitions of the pins are printed on the PCB for easy identification: VCC, GND, CLK, MOSI, MISO, CS, RESET, LED backlight control — all at first sight. Using a DuPont wire even allows it to be connected directly to the popular development boards like Arduino, STM32, ESP32. The driver IC ST7789V2 has been widely used in the market, and there are also ample resources of open-source driver libraries available on GitHub. You can just copy-paste and execute even with the "Hello World" or more complex UI examples.
Moreover, this SD card slot on the board does not require you to have any extra storage module. Graphic, font and configuration files are just saved onto the SD card and read through the SPI bus for display, which significantly relieves the main controller Flash from being stressed. On the PCB, four mounting holes can be found precisely at the 4 corners, and M3 screws can be tightened directly without the need for custom any kind of enclosure or bracket. Both prototyping and mass installation are very convenient.
